Whip Your Hair Back and Forth with Yelawolf
Mardi Gras isn't technically until this Tuesday, but you can bet Dallas will be getting its beads out early — especially in Oak Cliff where several events are planned. Across town, though, you can take in the pretty badass indie and hip-hop shows that will bookend Deep Ellum venues.
Islands at Sons of Hermann Hall
Recently, The Unicorns' lone LP, Who Will Cut Our Hair When We're Gone?, found itself alongside albums like The Sex Pistols' Never Mind the Bollocks in a Paste magazine list of the most memorable bands to have only released one album. Fortunately, the two-thirds of the band that later reformed as Islands have been much more prolific, with their fourth full-length being released just days before this Sons performance.

In conjunction with the Modern Multiples museum in Los Angeles, the Red Arrow Contemporary's newest exhibition will feature works from notable street artists like Banksy, Shepard Fairey, Retna, Mear One, Saber, Richard Durado, Mark Dean Veca, Gajin Fujita and others.

Big Boi has described his Lucious Left Foot moniker as encapsulating the moment where Luke Skywalker first became a Jedi, the moment he realized he was truly a master of his craft. Pig Roast at Private|Social
The third Saturday of every month, former Top Chef contestant Tiffany Derry hosts themed lunches at Private | Social. This month will feature a family-style pig roast with bottomless sides.
Peace, Love, & Dallas Music CD Release (Free)
Whenever we run into Shana Stein — the gal behind the free weekly Pass the Mic events on Wednesdays at City Tavern — at a bar, she never fails to tell us about another super talented underground local musician that we've never heard of but just have to hear. Ever the advocate, Stein has put together a compilation album called Peace, Love, & Dallas Music that no doubt contains more than a few names you've never heard. The release is being celebrated on with a show at City Tavern that will feature a dozen bands on its two stages.
Dash For Beads in Bishop Arts
We feel a whole lot better about our heavy drinking when we mix in some exercise between binges. To gear up for the Mardi Gras drinking marathon, it's probably a good idea to work in a costumed 5K beforehand. Pets are welcome. The walk will benefit FIDO's plans to open a dog park in the O.C.
