You! Me! and Los Campesinos! Dancing!
It's mid-week, mid-winter, and the day after a holiday — a greeting card holiday, but a holiday nonetheless — but there's no shortage of quality entertainment options to be found tonight.
Los Campesinos! at Club Dada
Earlier this week, Ellen Campesinos! told us about her band's efforts to re-focus their energy and re-energize their sound on their most recent release, Hello Sadness. Good thing, too, since audiences are more aware of the band now than ever before thanks to some heavily-rotated Budweiser television spots. So, y'know, grab some buds and dance.
Mike Doughty at House of Blues Cambridge Room
The former Soul Coughing will be reading excerpts from his autobiography, The Book of Drugs, as well as playing songs and taking questions from the audience.
House of MacGregor Free Love Valentine's Day Bash
Did anybody try and tell the folks at Oak Cliff millinery House of MacGregor (614 W. Davis Street, #203) that Valentine's Day was actually yesterday? At any rate, the local hat-makers are opting to hold their annual Free Love Bash tonight from 7 to 9 p.m. A photobooth by EMP and cocktails from Bolsa will be on-site.
Oscar-nominated short films at The Magnolia
For the next two nights the Magnolia will be showing all five nominated films in both Academy Award short film categories for the price of one ticket. The animated shorts “Dimanche/Sunday”, “The Fantastic Flying Books of Mr. Morris Lessmore”, “La Luna”, “A Morning Stroll”, and “Wild Life” are playing at 12:00, 4:00, and 8:00. The live action shorts “Pentecost”, “Raju”, “The Shore”, “Time Freak”, and “Tuba Atlantic” are playing at 1:45, 5:45, and 9:50.
Food Truck Happy Hour at Sigel's (5-8pm)
The Rock and Roll Tacos, Ruthie's Rolling Cafe and Easy Slider food trucks will be parked at Sigel's on Greenville if booze and mobile food offerings are how you roll.
