Sing-a-Long Grease Is A Many Splendored Thing.
There are a couple of pretty decent concert options tonight. There's a cheap way to see that awesome-looking play at The Nest, too. But the thing that has us most excited tonight is a movie. To be fair, though, it's not just any movie — it's a special sing-a-long edition of Grease. No, it's not that we need the lyrics to “You're the One That I Want” posted onto the screen so we can croon along with Danny. It's the reassurance that a theater full of cohorts will be singing along with me.
Grease Sing-a-Long at Texas Theatre
Truthfully, just the fact that the Texas Theatre is showing Grease on the big screen is reason enough for us to end up here tonight. Add in the fact that this is a special edition of the print, complete with animated lyrics bouncing along while Sandy and Danny belt out “Summer Nights,” and this thing gets bumps up to o can't-miss territory. Plus, I bet if enough of us hit up the Texas Theatre bar beforehand, we could make it a Grease Dance-a-Long, too.
Death Cab For Cutie at McFarlin Auditorium
In an interview with Billboard yesterday, Death Cab guitarist Chris Walla told the website that the band's current tour is his favorite that the band has ever done. He also hinted that, after this current run of shows, it might be another two or three years before the band releases anything new.
Patio Session: Tejas Brothers at AT&T PAC
Blending traditional elements of Tejano music with popular components of Texas country give the Tejas Brothers sound a nice mix of familiarity and uniqueness. It has also helped them to become one of the more fun live acts in the state.
Sandals and Sangria at Adeline
In celebration of their first birthday, the local retailer is teaming with fellow locals Hari Mari — makers of the popular colorful, comfortable flip-flops — for a shopping and sangria-sipping event. Hari Mari helps support children battling pediatric cancer, so use the 15 percent discount Adeline is offering up to buy an extra pair.
Avengers marathon at AMC Theaters
The early scuttlebutt on the new Avengers flick is that it might be the best film Marvel has ever put out. If that doesn't get you jazzed about the film's midnight release tonight, perhaps a marathon of films starring the Avengers characters will. Yes, all of them: Iron Man, The Incredible Hulk (The Edward Norton version), Iron Man 2, Thor and Captain America.
The Better Doctor at The Nest
Matt Lyle's play — er, silent film on stage — The Better Doctor is still in its first week of performances at West Dallas theater The Nest. Upstart Productions, who is responsible for the play, is billing each night of the production as a double-header as a reference to the live music from local bands that follows each night's performance. Though admission is usually $20, it's a pay-what-you-can deal on Thursdays.
