Kick Off Your Shoes With Jessica Lea Mayfield At The Belmont.
Tonight and through the weekend, there are more than enough quality concert options to keep you busy. But, unlike the rest of the week, tonight offers some casual outdoor performances, thanks to the first Barefoot at the Belmont of the year and AT&T PAC's Patio Sessions series, the latter of which continues tonight with Daniel Hart. If you're taking the night off from live music to gear up for the heavy hitters coming to town tomorrow, consider the Jeremy Laing welcome party at V.O.D. or a screening of one of the all-time great rock docs at Texas Theatre.
Jessica Lea Mayfield at the Belmont hotel
Tonight marks the first installment of the year in KXT's Barefoot at the Belmont series. Folky songstress Jessica Lea Mayfield and her ominous, minimalist tunes make for a nice starting point for the intimate outdoor series at the beautiful Oak Cliff landmark.
Dig! at Texas Theatre
You can thank Brian Jonestown Massacre's performance at Granada Theater tomorrow night for this special screening of the documentary Dig! at Texas Theatre. The award-winning doc uses footage from BJM and Dandy Warhols tours, contrasting the success of Courtney Taylor-Taylor and the Warhols with the complete drug-fueled self-destruction and meltdown of Antone Newcombe and Brian Jonestown.
Jeremy Laing at V.O.D. Boutique
Toronto-based designer Jeremy Laing's simple designs manage to look smart without coming off as pretentious. Before his trunk show tomorrow at V.O.D., there will be a party in his honor tonight in the store from 6 to 9 p.m. (2418 Victory Park Lane).
Steve Earle & the Dukes at Granada Theater
His music touches on folk, rock and country, but Earle never achieved mainstream stardom in any of those genres. Instead, he has maintained a loyal cult following for much of his career. His outspoken political beliefs, battles with substance abuse, run-ins with the law and undeniable talent as a songwriter have always made Earle one of the more compelling figures in contemporary country and folk music.
Daniel Hart at AT&T Performing Arts Center
The Belmont Hotel isn't the only place hosting a patio session tonight. Violinist Daniel Hart, who has performed with Polyphonic Spree, St. Vincent, Other Lives and most recently on Sarah Jaffe's new record, will be performing his own poppy solo compositions this evening at the AT&T Performing Arts Center. Food trucks Little Vessel, Four Seasons, City Street Grille will also be on hand.
Dead Week Print Show at Rubber Gloves
The semi-annual Denton happening will pair a print exhibition and sale by P.A.N.T.S. in the Meme Gallery with performances by the Pitchfork-approved Pinkish Black, a return home from tour Nervous Curtains and a debut performance by upstart Forever Home.
