Kevin James Delivers The Laughs At Majestic Theatre.
Tonight, take advantage of the gorgeous turn the weather has taken of late: Enjoy drinks on a patio, take your Vespa for a spin or maybe just absolutely stuff yourself with crawfish. While we're talking about food: Savor Dallas events are going on at several locations today, namely their signature International Grand Tasting event. And, hey, Paul Blart actor Kevin James is in town, too! Plus, there's that pretty folkin' big thing going on in Deep Ellum.
Savor Dallas
Dallas' biggest foodie event kicks into high gear today with options all over town. The city's best female chefs will hold a cooking demonstration at Milestone Culinary Arts Center, and the International Grand Tasting featuring over 60 local artisans will go down at the Irving Convention Center. Kevin James at Majestic Theatre
For nine years, Kevin James starred in the sitcom King of Queens, playing an overweight delivery driver married to a disproportionally hot wife. He's since gone on to star in a string of widely-panned movies, including last summer's Zookeeper, all of which have made a lot of folks forget how good his stand-up act is. Comedy Central did rank him No. 89 on their list of the 100 Greatest Stand-Up Comedians, after all.
The Deep Ellum Big Folkin' Festival at Prophet Bar
When he hasn't been working up folk versions of classic '90s alternative rock jams, Parallel Play frontman Jeremy Drake has been spending his free time over the past few months planning and preparing to execute the inaugural incarnation of The Deep Ellum Big Folkin' Festival. Tonight, 31 local Americana and folk bands perform on five stages — two in the Prophet Bar's big room, one in the small room, one outside and one at nearby In Accord.
Rockers vs Mods Rally
A couple of days ago, the Margaret Hunt Hill Bridge officially opened to traffic. Good thing, too, 'cause Rockers vs Mods' annual motorcycle and scooter rally has a planned course this afternoon that will take them across Large Marge.
Crawfish Boil at Three Sheets
A $15 donation to the charity Young Texas Against Cancer is all it takes to access as much crawfish as you can stuff into your gut at this event, which also boasts $2 drafts of Miller Lite and Coors Light, and live music all day.
Dallas Comedy Festival at Dallas Comedy House
Much like the last two days, the comedy fest will feature performances from selected improv and sketch comedy troupes from around the country, like the noted L.A. group Dasariski. Show times tonight are at 6, 8 and 10 p.m., and the full schedule can be found here.
