Enjoy A Rolling Smorgasbord Of Food Trucks In Oak Cliff.

Not familiar with much of the quality local music the Metroplex has to offer? Then tonight's all-local show at Granada Theater would make a pretty good jumping off point, with four of the area's top acts performing at one of the city's premier venues.

Along with music, there are lots of, well, good things to eat today.

The White Rock Local Market will be hosting an amateur chili cook off; for dessert Five and Ten will be serving up ice cream in honor of their grand opening; and there's that gigantic food truck smorgasbord going on over in Oak Cliff called Truckstock, where dozens of food trucks will convene in a central location, thereby making it possible to sample as many different rolling eateries as your wallet/stomach can handle.

The Local Edge Presents: Dovetail at Granada Theater
Earlier this year, KDGE host and curator of all things local music, Mark Schectman, presented a well-received all-local bill at The Granada that featured The Burning Hotels and the debut performance of Mon Julien. For his followup booking, Schectman will present Dovetail's CD release, a two-years-in-the-making full-length studio effort wherin the band aims to show off the breadth of its classic rock and pop influences. Salim Nourallah, RTB2, and Menkena round out this stellar local lineup.

The 2012 TX Pinball Festival at the Hilton DFW Lakes Executive Conference Center
This year's show will feature 225-plus machines all set to free play, including a few rare machines — like the AC/DC “Back in Black” machine — that you literally won't find anywhere else. There will also be a swap meet for old machines, screenings of pinball docs, seminars from the world's top players and game designers, and, duh, tournaments.

Puppies & Ice Cream at Five & Ten
Today, Forty Five Ten on McKinney Avenue celebrates the grand opening of their new Highland Park Village shop, Five and Ten, with their Puppies & Ice Cream event. Rescue Me will be on hand to adopt out puppies, the Mr. Softee ice cream truck will be on site serving up goodies and DJ Lucy Wrubell will be providing the tune-age.

White Rock Local Market Chili Cook-Off
The second and fourth Saturday of each month, WRLM, located at 702 N. Buckner Blvd, is the place to find locally-produced agriculture and goods. This afternoon, they will be holding a chili cook-off. Awards will be handed out to judges favorites for best vegetarian, best traditional, best hot and spicy, most creative, and best presentation, as well as a peoples' choice award for best over-all chili.

Truckstock in Oak Cliff
We'll admit, as on-board as we are with the whole food truck movement, we haven't tried nearly as many of them as we'd like to have. We're usually the more grab-whatever-is-in-arm's-reach-and-scarf-it-on-the-run than the scout-out-food-truck-locations-on-Twitter-and-make-a-special-trip-there types. Today, from 2 to 7 p.m., loads of the city's most popular trucks will all be at one location, 1818 Sylvan Ave., which should make things easier for us. Among the trucks confirmed so far are: Butcher's Son, Gandolfo's NY Deli, Nammi, Ruthie's Rolling Cafe, Rock and Roll Taco, Zombie's, Four Seasons, 3 Lions, Lee's Grilled Cheese, Rollin' Diner, Geppetto's Pizza , Cup Cakin Machine, Tin Star, Little Vessel Grill, Jack's Chow Hound, Dos Paisanos, Mainstream Fish Camp. We're going to try to sample as many as possible. Hey, it's our day off.
