Scenes From Last Night's Wax Addicts Party in the Design District.
Dallas' Design District is no stranger to eclectic parties and the like, so Wednesday's Wax Addicts affair wasn't too out of the ordinary for the neighborhood. But it was a treat, to be sure, as area DJs JT Donaldson, DJ A1 and Tony Schwa gathered to offer up an all-vinyl sonic adventure (hence the event's title) filled with songs from bygone eras.
It was an educational event on some levels, as the selectors dropped future hip-hop samples such as Sylvia Striplin's “Give Me Your Love” (later used by Common Sense and Armand Van Helden for “Full Moon”) as well as disco hits like Two Man Sounds' “Que Tal America.”
The crowd was fairly slow to start dancing, though. But as the night went on, and some spillover crowds arrived from the Mavs' winning effort at the AAC, that would change.
Lower Echelon, the group behind the event, is looking to make this a monthly event, so keep your eyes tuned here to find out about next month's go. From what we hear, a healthy collection of local, national and even international artists are in talks to appear at future iterations of the event.
