The Walkmen and Milo Greene Put On a Captivating Display Last Night at the Granada Theater.
With the lights dimmed, and crowd cheering, The Walkmen walked out onto the Granada Theater stage last night, gave a quick greeting to their Dallas audience and jumped right into their latest single, “The Love You Love.”
Despite its quick pace, this lead-off song was something of a somber number, and Walkmen frontman Hamilton Leithauser didn't exactly hide as much: “Baby, it's the love you love — not me!” he opined, pouring his frustrated heart out for all at the Granada to see.
Clearly, though, the subject of that song was not present in last night's crowd.
These people were quite obviously in love with Leithauser and his band's music. And, though the beloved group were short on words, they controlled the stage very comfortably and made time to chit-chat sparingly with the audience.
“This next song, we did down at Hunky's in the Bishop Arts District,” Leithauser shared before the band launched into one of their John Congleton-produced songs from 2010's Lisbon. “Anyone ever been there? It's a burger joint. It's not like some gay strip club.”
Whether anyone had, in fact, been to Hunky's before didn't really matter. Everyone in the room would've been enamored with anything Leithauser or his bandmates had said.
They were set up well for such a reception, too. Opening up the night were the smooth and humble sounds of Milo Greene. The band was nothing short of captivating, as their five members put on an atmospheric set of tunes that would jive perfectly around a nice camp fire with a few of your closest friends. Nearly every band member contributed vocals within the band's dreamy, almost haunting, harmony showcase.
Yes, it set the perfect mood for The Walkmen to follow.
It was yet another great night to be at the Granada Theater, to be sure.
