On Friday Night, The Phuss Drummer Trey Alfaro Was Injured In A Hit And Run Accident.

On Friday night, Trey Alfaro, drummer for Dallas hard rock band The Phuss was injured in a hit-and-run accident while biking to his home in Deep Ellum from the Harry Hines DART station.

Less than two miles into his journey, Alfaro was struck by a white truck near the intersection of West Northwest Highway and Webb Chapel Road, with the truck's driver stopping just long enough to ask Alfaro if he was alive. After confirming that he was, the driver and a passenger re-entered the truck and fled the scene, leaving behind a barely-conscious Alfaro.

Thankfully, Alfaro wasn't critically injured in the crash. Still, his ailments are serious: According to his bandmate Josh Flemming, Alfaro suffered road rash, a concussion, a broken nose and several broken teeth which will require oral surgery.

Now, to help out his bandmate, Flemming has set up a GoFundMe page to help Alfaro's mounting medical bills. Already, 70 people have contributed to the cause at the time of this writing, with over $4,000 of the fundraising effort's stated $10,000 goal now reached.

Because of the incident, the band had to pull out of a gig at City Tavern on Friday, August 22, with Austin band The Well. Jeffrey Brown, whose King Camel Productions booked the show, has since said that all proceeds made on that night will also be donated directly to Alfaro's recovery fund.

The band is also currently slated to perform at King Camel's one-year anniversary party on August 30 at Dada. Also on the docket for the band are a digital release show for its upcoming On the Prowl LP and a slot at this year's Index Festival in September. For the time being, those shows remain on the books.

Alfaro's wreck comes less than three months into the tenure of Ashley Haire as Dallas' new bike coordinator. Haire took over control of the city's bike plan back in May.

The incident serves as a reminder: Haire has her work cut out for her as far as making Dallas a more harmonious place for motorists and cyclists is concerned.
