Dallas Filmmaker Shane Carruth Just Inked A Deal With William Morris For His Next Movie.
Shane Carruth, the Dallas filmmaker who previously gave us the sci-fi drama Primer and the mind-bending romance Upstream Color, just signed himself a big deal.
Earlier this week, Deadline reported that Carruth inked a deal with William Morris Endeavor, which will help him produce his next feature film, The Modern Ocean. He'll also receive some financing from Lawrence Inglee's Blackbird production company.
The news is big for Carruth, a brilliant filmmaker with unique ideas. For better or worse, though — and despite Carruth's track record to date — the world of moviemaking often requires that brilliant ideas have to be backed up with cold hard cash.
Still, it'll be interesting to see what Carruth can do when he isn't on a shoestring budget. At this point, the specifics of what The Modern Ocean aren't widely known. We do know that it'll be a “nautical action adventure,” though, so there's that.
Anyway, cheers to Carruth for getting his foot squarely in the door in Hollywood, even if it's something he's previously said he'd hoped he would forever be able to avoid. Onward and upward, we guess.
Just don't let those suits change you, man.
