Talking J. Cole's Secret Dallas Show, Leon Bridges' Rise and Dallas' National Rep.
Welcome to the This Is Dallas podcast, where our weekly focus is the City of Dallas and all interesting things happening around it. Wanna subscribe to it on iTunes? You can do so right here. Also, peep the archives here.
After taking last week off, professional radio talker Mike Marshall and I start this week's podcast by jumping right into the fray and detailing the hectic nature of trying to solve this weekend's biggest mystery: Where the hell was that $1 J. Cole show going to go down?
We start the podcast off just by speculating, but by the time we finish up, the show's eventual home at the House of Blues would get revealed. In turn, we end up pulling the curtain back a bit and showing you how the Central Track sausage gets made, while also marveling at the big weekend Dallas music had between that J. Cole event, the various Leon Bridges shows and the hip-hop scenes' recent Noisey cosign.
Actually, over the course of the conversation, we come to realize that it's not just Dallas; music scene that's in the spotlight, but rather the city at large.
Also discussed this week:
• Would we be OK with all of Flower Mound just washing away?
• What's up with Dale Hansen, moral center?
• When the ocean levels inevitably rise, will Dallas become America's greatest city?
• Does CNN love Dallas or what?
• Isn't Weird Al amazing?
All that, plus listens to Leon Bridges' “Smooth Sailing,” -topic's “Rainy Day in Dallas (feat. Paris Perhsun)” and The Outfit, TX's “Private Dancer.” So, y'know, hit the damn play button already. — Pete Freedman
