Get Ready To Pop That.
The ironic thing about Labor Day is that those actually doing most of the laboring don't even get the day off.
Over the past couple of decades, retailers have increasingly beefed up their man hours on this annual holiday so as to take advantage of all the extra potential shoppers that have the day off. As a result, Labor Day is generally regarded one of the top five busiest shopping days of the year.
Sadly, what this really means is that those who deserve to be barbecuing and pool partying the most today are actually the ones at their jobs, working longer and harder than they would on even a typical Monday.
Just something to keep in mind as you plan what to do with your day-off and subsequent shortened work week beyond.
Maybe do something nice for a service industry worker today — tip more than usual, perhaps — and, y'know, just be cool.
