One of the first instruments most of us ever picked up was a recorder. The dumbed down flute/clarinet hybrid was and is the worst thing to ever happen to music, bagpipes be damned. Or is it?
Much in the same way a double negative becomes a positive, sometimes, something can get so shitty that it actually starts to be good. When pop songs are played on the thing, the results are often hilariously compelling.
