Lest there was any doubt that New York's subway system was one of the most germ-filled places on the planet, a newly-published, 18-month study conducted by Weill Cornell Medical College now confirms it. A team from the college collected samples from 466 subway stations, and spent months sequencing the genetic material from their swabs. What they found was traces of over 15,000 types of life forms, “ranging from rodents and insects to the bacteria that cause the bubonic plague.”
Yikes.
Still, Dr. Chris Mason, who worked on the study, says it's really nothing to worry about. Even if, he says, you decided to lick all the poles in the subway, you'd probably be fine.
Plus, you know what they say: If you can lick things in public there, you can lick them anywhere. It's up to you, Dallas.
