Oh, You Already Know…

OK, so we kinda shot our wad early on this one, posting what we hoped was a fairly all-encompassing collection of some 60 New Year's Eve events just yesterday.

Our plan was to supplement that list today with some more events — and hopefully some that weren't so New Year's-inclined. Y'know what, though? We couldn't find any. Everything going on today is NYE-focused. So, uh, yesterday's list? That's just gonna have to do.

Still, since we do these “Things To Do…” posts every single day, we figured it'd be something of a disservice to our readership if we didn't get something else up about the goings-on today.

So, that said, let's take a look at eight of the events going on tonight in particular and why these, perhaps above all the others, may be a little bit more worth your attendance.

Jonathan Tyler & Northern Lights at Granada Theater
Because it's an annual tradition, one that's been going on since 2008. And because some kickass openers are on the bill, too: Quaker City Night Hawks and The Roomsounds.

NYg(EE) at South Side Music Hall
Because Larry g(EE) puts on one of the best shows around. And because Hall & Oates tribute act The Rich Girls, who are playing support on this bill, put on one of the most fun shows around.

X at Gas Monkey Bar & Grill
Because so what if X played the State Fair earlier this year? The band remains one of the seminal punk rock bands, an act that everyone should see at least once.

Somebody's Darling at Dada
Because it's the best roots-rock bill in town tonight, featuring not only Somebody's Darling, but the also-great Whiskey Folk Ramblers, Goodnight Ned and Bad Mountain.

New Year's Eve at Sfuzzi
Because it's the last night of operation at this McKinney Avenue hotspot, which will be closing down for good soon as this one ends. Oh, and because at least one porn star is attending.

Mardi Gras Blowout at Twilite Lounge
Because it's the best new bar that Dallas welcomed in 2013, and, well, that's that.

NYE Blowout Bash at The Where House
Because Dark Rooms, which is headlining this affair, isn't just the best new band in town — they might just be the best band in town, period.

2014: The Year of the Woman at Texas Theatre
Because 2014 might actually be the year of the woman, in fact. Also? Because Zhora rules and so does Sam Lao.
