Celebrate Kendrick Lamar's Ascension at South Side Music Hall.
The past week or so has been so full of Halloween events, we wouldn't blame you if you thought October 31 had already come and gone. Alas, it hasn't. So here we are tonight with yet more opportunities for you to rock your distasteful costume garb. Just do everyone else a favor and maybe throw that stinky gear of yours into the washer and dryer for a spell, yeah? If you can find the time, that is. As you can see below, there's tons to do tonight.
Kendrick Lamar at South Side Music Hall
Seems everyone's ready to proclaim Kendrick Lamar the Next Big Thing in hip-hop since the release of his critically acclaimed, Dr. Dre-approved good kid mAAd city album last week. Tonight, find out if he's really worth the hype.
Justice at Palladium Ballroom
In a revealing interview we ran earlier this week, Justice's Xavier De Rosnay told our Cory Graves how his graphic design background has influenced his band's thumping electronic music output. See this influence firsthand for yourself tonight, then head on over to Beauty Bar for this show's after-party, where DJs Sober and RedEye will share the decks.
Halloween on Halloween at the Texas Theatre
We're proud to be co-presenting this chance to watch the classic Halloween film on Halloween with our friends at Texas Theatre and I Heart Cinema. It's a good take at under $10 a ticket. And, well, if you don't really care about watching the movie, you can just come and hang out. The party in the theater's bar lobby — complete with a performance from Denton's Savage & The Big Beat and all — is completely free to attend.
Peelander-Z at Dada
This Japanese punk outfit doesn't need Halloween as an excuse to dress up. They do that at all of their shows.
Cheap Time, Leg Sweeper and The Atomic Tanlines at Bryan Street Tavern
Use this free show as a chance to catch former Dallas favorites Leg Sweeper, who recently moved to Austin and are currently touring like crazy, as well as the up-and-coming, soon-to-be-favorites in The Atomic Tanlines, who together are prividing support for Nashville garage rock outfit Cheap Time.
Trillwave (featuring Left/Right, Genova and Killtron) at Zubar
This new-ish weekly features three of Dallas' finest DJs joining forces on Lower Greenville.
Halloween Flash Special at Lucky's Tattoo
In need of a new tat? The folks down at Lucky's in Deep Ellum are only charging 40 bones for their work tonight.
Costume Contest at Sue Ellen's
The annual Halloween celebration that is the Oak Lawn Block Party already came and went this past weekend, but this party at Sue Ellen's provides a solid chance to relive the madness.
Rob Zombie and Marilyn Mason at Verizon Theater
Shock-rock heroes unite on this bill, which is not-so-fortuitously being called the “Freakers Ball.” Serious question: Will the crowd at this one be more dressed up because it falls on Halloween?
Tomahawk and Pujol at the Granada Theater
Faith No More frontman Mike Patton's other project hasn't toured in some nine years, but this show at the Granada as the band heads Fun Fun Fun Fest's way rectifies that.
Hunka Hunka Halloween at the Double Wide
Dress up as Elvis and you could win some prizes maybe!
R.C. and The Gritz present Thriller Night at the Jam Session at the Prophet Bar
Expect the best weekly in town to shine even brighter tonight as R.C. Williams and The Gritz jam out some Michael Jackson and spooky-themed tunes. Also? Free barbecue with the cost of admission!
