Get High With A Little Help From Your Friends.
While schlepping a lemon cake through a crowded train platform, a Boston man recently took note of the eyes of so many strangers fixed uncomfortably in his direction, and wondered if this is anything like what it feels like to be an attractive female?
Wondering if he was, in fact, onto something there, his wife made some sweet treats for several of the couple's male friends to carry around in public, and indeed, they all noticed an influx of eyeballs staring at their goods. Though, admittedly, this phenomenon probably didn't prove anywhere near the same degree of discomfort women feel in public on the daily, the dessert-carriers did say it was something of an eye-opening experience all the same.
You don't have to conduct the experiment for yourself, per se, to gain a bit of valuable insight here, although your pals probably wouldn't complain if you showed up to the bar with a tray of warm cookies tonight.
Twilite Does The Beatles at Twilite Lounge (Free)
Like they've done with the catalogs of Bob Dylan and The Rolling Stones in recent months, a dozen of the area's best singer-songwriters will come together right now tonight for the mother of all Beatles covers song swaps. Participating entities include: Danny Balis (Calhoun), Greg Schroeder, Amber Farris (Somebody's Darling), Wesley Geiger, Phil Creamer (Dovetail), Robbie Saunders (The Venetian Sailors), Ryan Thomas Becker (RTB2), Tony Ferraro (The Satans of Soft Rock), Grady Don Sandlin (RTB2), Jeffrey Saenz (J. Charles & the Trainrobbers), Kenny Uptain (Foxtrot Uniform), Zachary Fox (The Hazardous Dukes) and Madison King.
Chippendales at House of Blues
With the Lakewood Theater now shuttered, the city's burlesque scene is in flux. Good thing, then, that Las Vegas' iconic male revue is here to save the day. The troupe's current tour is called “Get Lucky,” but we somehow don't get the feeling that means the fellas will be adding Daft Punk masks to its trademark bow tie and shirt cuffs outfits. In any case, it gives us an excuse to link to this video once again.
Trillwave at Beauty Bar
It seems like there's always something special about Trillwave's Beauty Bar residency pretty much every week. Tonight's edition, for instance, they'll celebrate resident DJ Trailer Swift's birthday, and be joined by special guest Fitz Lauder.
Eric Johnson and Mike Stern at Granada Theater
Blues wizard Eric Johnson and jazz master Mike Stern recently melded their unique blends of styles into a record called Eclectic, which they'll perform tonight at the Granada. Joining the noted noodlers at this one is Johnson's longtime bassist Chris Maresh and Tonight Show drummer Anton Fig.
