Age Gracefully with Loudon Wainwright III at the Kessler.
As the days of summer start winding down, I've started creating a list of things that I need to do before I no longer have the opportunity.
While things like “clean the silly string off of my dog” and “find out where the boys of summer are going” are tops on that list, I have plenty of things to add thanks to these daily suggestions I'm forced to write for you all.
Tonight's options are pretty solid, too.
Your best bet for today is the legendary musician and humorist Loudon Wainwright III, who will be performing at the Kessler. Other than that, there's the UniverSoul Circus at Southwest Center Mall, a Star Wars party at the Where House and Big Fiction at 1919 Hemphill.
UniverSoul Circus at Southwest Center Mall
Last week, we had Ringling Brothers and Barnum & Bailey Circus, and this week we have UniverSoul. The world just isn't tired of circuses, people! UniverSoul promises to be a little different than your average, boring circus, though. This circus will have R&B! I have no idea what that means as the circus goes, though. A special guest appearance by R. Kelly, maybe? One can only hope!
Loudon Wainwright III at the Kessler Theater
He's released 22 albums, appeared in a handful of movies and TV shows, composed film scores, and, at one point, he was even hailed as the “new Bob Dylan,” a title he'd later come to mock. Wainwright's latest album, Older Than My Old Man Now, is the sort of reflective album that works so well for artists of his age and experience. That's why it has received near-unanimous acclaim.
Star Wars-Themed Hump Day Party at the Where House
Everyone loves a Star Wars party, and this event will have music gtom Cozy Hawks and Mailmen. Hopefully there will be plenty of mingling Han Solos and Boba Fetts. As for me, I've ironed my Admiral Ackbar costume, and, just so you know, yes, it's a trap!
Big Fiction, Spacebeach and Terminator 2 at 1919 Hemphill
If you're in the mood for a local show but you don't want to run into the possibility of running into Jar Jar Binks (although, let's face it, it's got to take serious guts to dress up as Jar Jar for any reason), you should check out Forth Worth's Big Fiction and Spacebeach along with Denton's Terminator 2 at this show, which is just one of two reasons why Fort Worth will be busy this evening.
