Stay Classy, Dallas.
It was a rocky day for the newlywed couple from Berlin when they were driving back home from their honeymoon: The husband stopped at a gas station off the highway to fill up when he (accidentally?) drove off and left his wife.
Sure, we've seen the movies where this stuff happens but we didn't think it actually happened in real life.
But it did. And the wife was left behind for a full two-and-a-half-hour wait.
We guess they didn't have cell phones because it's weird to think how the wife didn't call the husband when she saw that the car was gone. Meanwhile, just imagine the shock on this man's face when he noticed his wife was no longer in the car and realized that the gas station he stopped at hours ago is where he left her.
In the groom's defense, his new bride had been sleeping in the backseat and quietly slipped out to use the bathroom while he was pumping the gas. It was a total rookie mistake that we assume he'll catch hell over for many years to come.
Anyway, no rookie mistakes tonight! There are free classes to choose from, a stellar movie, and a couple party scenes that'll be easy on your bank account but hard on the good time.
Just make sure that if you go with someone, you don't leave them at the venue.
Ladies Night at School Class
Back in April, John Neel officially launched his School Class project in which members of the community could attend free, quirky classes taught entirely by volunteers. The three classes scheduled for tonight will all be presented by women. Choose from rubber stamp making )this one is filling up fast!), belly dancing, or improv comedy. If you can't choose, that's OK, because you can go to all of them. So go learn something tonight or, if you have something you want to teach, contact Principal Neel before next “semester.” — Jordyn Walters
TENOVERSIX + Weekend at The Joule Hotel
The past few months have seen the Los Angeles-based fashion boutique TenOverSix make its mark on Dallas and completely reshaping the lobby of The Joule Hotel. Besides the collection of clothing and accessories, which owners describe as “pieces that are reflective of our distinct style as influenced by Dallas' ever-evolving downtown culture,” they've now also added a craft coffee shop and a chic gift shop to the hotel's recently-renovated lower floor. To celebrate the recent spat of openings, TenOverSix is hosting a party that will include performances by Austin's Wild Child, LA husband-wife duo Doom & Gloom, DJ sets by Rooney frontman Robert Schwartzman, a screening of a short film series by Eva Michon, light refreshments and a complimentary valet. — Cory Graves
The Showdown at Sundown
Like most weeks, Blake Ward's residency at Sundown make Lower Greenville of the best places to show off your best/worst dance moves on a Tuesday night. An added reason to attend tonight's offering, though, is the fact that Zhora will be this week's special guest. Need a few more reasons? How do no cover and half-price draughts sound? — JW
Close Encounters of the Third Kind at The Magnolia
This '77 classic Spielberg film is one of those movies that you probably saw as a kid, only to be left completely scared shitless. If you haven't seen it, though, now is the time. This movie was pushed back over and over again by Spielberg until his success with Jaws allowed him to finally make the movie the way he wanted to. What came of this alien-abduction film was not only a successful movie in the box office, but a strong cult following. Oh, and these days, it's in the Library of Congress, where in 2007 it was selected for preservation in the National Film Registry. — JW
