Celebrate the Power of Music!
Once, there was a clam. That clam had a bunch of clam friends, and they lived in one of the biggest reefs in the entire world, with a bunch of cool underwater night clubs and fish restaurants that sold algae or something.
Seriously, this was one awesome reef.
One night, the clam's friends were totally like, “Hey dude, let's hit up the town!” The clam was like, “I don't know guys, I have to get up early in the morning.” All the other clams were like, “LAME!” and the clam went to sleep. While he was sleeping, a starfish ate him.
The end. Moral of the story: Don't be that clam.
You live in a big reef, too. It's called Dallas. It's imperative that you explore the city each day. Today, let this short-list act as your guide. Go out and do something — if only so you won't be eaten by a starfish. There's a surprising amount happening, so you really have no excuse.
Dallas Observer Music Awards Ceremony at the House of Blues
Congrats to all the nominees on their nominations! Congrats, too, to all the bands that played the awards showcase throughout Deep Ellum on Saturday, and also to those behind throwing that bash. We heard nothing but great things. Here's hoping all that positive juju carries over to tonight's awards ceremony where the winners will be revealed, too. The scheduled performances and appearances suggest a strong follow-up: Our favorite local comic, Paul Vargehese, is hosting, and, in addition to performances from Luna Matto, The O's and out-of-towners Lucero, the Erykah Badu-formed Cannabinoids will play. No word on if Erykah's showing, too, but you can imagine what it'd be like if she did. Doors at 7 p.m.
The Deftones Meet and Greet at Good Records
Before their Wednesday night show at the Palladium, The Deftones will be partying it up and meeting fans at Good Records start at 6 p.m. Want in on the fun? Pre-order the band's new album at the door. Serious fans, you got this.
New Men's Clothing Line Party at Dish
Local designer Jim Duran will be debuting his new menswear clothing line (called BLKLN) at this Dallas restaurant tonight. Get some drinks! Maybe some new duds?
Title Fight and Power Trip at Dada
Melodic Pennsylvania hardcore outfit Title Fight swings through town for this offering to the raging set, and they're joined on the bill by Dallas' own Power Trip, a band known for amazing live shows. Doors at 7 p.m.
Future Islands at The Prophet Bar (Pictured Above)
Future Islands rules. They'll be at the Prophet Bar tonight with fellow experimental alternative outfit Talk Normal. Doors are at 7 p.m. This song's a jam:
