Catch Some Runoff.
Word on the street is that Netflix has begun testing ads. Before you panic too hard, though, just know that the company says for the time being that its testing is limited — so much so that it might never move beyond the testing phase and, even if it does, ads will likely only show during Netflix's original series.
So, y'know, you shouldn't feel obligated to stay in and take advantage of the final days of ad-free Netflix binging per se. Plus, there's other stuff worth your while this evening.
Tuesday Night Trash: Dandy Dust at Texas Theatre (Free)
The visual equivalent of a splatter painting, the 1998 arthouse flick Dandy Dust is purposefully insane, filled with rapid jump cuts, breaks in continuity, stop-motion animation, bursts of color and out-of-sync dialogue. Somewhere in there, the madness purportedly depicts the suffering of a transgendered cyborg whose memory has been erased.
“Bar Politics: Runoff Edition” at Hickory Street Annex
With some critical runoff elections set to go down in the coming weeks, Bar Politics will bring its blend of local political satire and performance art to Hickory Street Annex. Come learn about the issues and drink some drinks — especially you're a fan of Trinity toll road jokes.
Brewsday Tuesday at The Common Table
The Common Table continues the week-long celebration of its fifth anniversary with a special five-beer flight being offered up tonight after 5 p.m. Brews included on the flight include: 2010 Oskar Blues Brewery Ten Fidy, 2011 Avery Brewing Company Hog Heaven, 2012 Mephistofeles, 2013 North Coast Brewing Company Old Stock and 2014 Deschutes Brewery Abyss.
The Muthers at Alamo Drafthouse
The Drafthouse's answer to Tuesday Night Trash is Vinegar Syndrome, where they'll show 1976 pirate flick/women's prison/blaxploitation mashup The Muthers. If there was ever a movie destined for midnight screenings, it's this one, which, interestingly enough, will get going around 6 p.m.
