Tegan and Sara, M83 and The Shins, Oh My!
If Dallas had been craving some big indie-scene names, today is the day Dallas gets its wish.
M83, The Shins and Tegan and Sara all decided to fly into Dallas tonight. Or maybe they took tour buses. Whatever their mode of transportation, these groups are each sure to perform large, packed shows worth your while tonight.
And if none of these acts really suit you, smaller (but still just as great) shows will also be going down tonight, including performances from R. Stevie Moore and The Blurries.
Point is, no matter your taste, there's a concert awaiting you tonight.
Tegan and Sara at Strauss Square
Canadian pop duo/identical twin sisters Tegan and Sara will perform with Austin pop group Speak at the AT&T Performing Arts Center's Strauss Square this evening. This is sure to be the concert tonight for all you serious canadian pop fans out there. Show starts at 8 p.m.
M83 at Palladium Ballroom
Making a huge buzz with their release of Hurry Up, We're Dreaming album, M83 had to not come just once to Dallas, but twice. This is their second stop tonight, and the group will be playing a sure-to-be crowded show at the Palladium with Sun Airway opening. Perhaps this is your chance to redeem yourself for poor dancing at the band's earlier Granada shows? Plan ahead and get your best grooving moves ready for “Midnight City.” Doors at 7 p.m.
R. Stevie Moore at Rubber Gloves
Fuzzy bedroom rock fans: Get ready! Lo-fi legend R. Steevie Moore is performing out at Denton's own Rubber Gloves. For fans of Ariel Pink, John Maus and the like who are unaware of Moore's work, this show is definitely what you will want to check out. Make sure to come early to catch openers Tropical Oooze and Bukkake Moms. Doors at 9 p.m.
The Shins at House of Blues
Indie pop-rock band The Shins will be promoting their latest album, Port of Morrow, with White Rabbits opening. Here's your chance to relive high school memories and sway to James Mercer's falsetto. Doors are at 7 p.m.
The Toasters at La Grange
If you were excited at the possibility of attending a kitchen appliance convention at La Grange tonight, you will be disappointed to learn that it is not actual toasters that will be there tonight, but The Toasters (along with Rude King and Top Hat Ted.) If, however, you are a huge fan of ska music, then get excited and check out this show. Doors at 7:30.
Godspeed You! Black Emperor at Granada Theater
After capably establishing themselves as Canadian post-rock legends in the mid- to late-'90s, the collective of performers known as Godspeed You! Black Emperor took a break from performing in the mid-'00s. Sad face. But wait! They returned to the stage in 2010 and they've been continuing on since, going so far as to release this year's 'Allelujah! Don't Bend! Ascend!, an album as ambitious as anything the band's previously released.
The Blurries and Zhora AT&T Patio Session
Local favorites The Blurries and Zhora will drop their delightful tunes from 5:30 to 7:30 tonight. And remember: The patio sessions are free to attend and always BYOB.
