Rock Like a Wagon Wheel with Old Crow Medicine Show.

It's practically Christmas! OK, not really. But doesn't it feel like it's just days away?

This feeling probably comes from the commercial pressure that constant reminds us to buy gifts for everyone we care about. But, hey, since it already feels like the big day is just around the corner, maybe you should award some of your friends/family/whatever with their gifts early so you don't have to panic later and buy them something the day before the holiday.

How about a nice romantic picnic for your boyfriend/girlfriend/spouse/dog at Lee Park while you watch some fireworks? Or maybe you could up some concert tickets?

Anything beats a last minute trip to Walmart, where everyone ends up getting socks.

Non-Perishable Comedy at Dallas Comedy House
This is your last chance to participate in the non-perishable comedy deal at the Dallas Comedy House (seeing as this is the last Thursday of the month, after all). If you've missed out, here's how it works: Bring two canned food items to the ticket office, turn them in and receive half-off admission to the comedy show tonight. All donations go to the North Texas Food Bank.

Hendrix 70: Live at Woodstock at the Magnolia
“Man, I want to go out tonight, but I don't want to talk a shower,” you think while watching a Hoarders marathon on your sofa. Good idea. We wouldn't really recommend not bathing and going out with a large group of people. We would, however, recommend something else: You can watch other people enjoy a level of bath-less-ness that you could ever achieve and head to The Magnolia tonight to catch the screening of Hendrix 70: Live at Woodstock, a documentary only showing in town for two nights. The film follows the Woodstock experience and shows some sweet footage of Jimi Hendrix performing. Hence the title. Duh.

Old Crow Medicine Show at House of Blues
“Man, I want to go out tonight, but I really want to take a shower first,” you consider while hand-polishing each mirrored surface in your apartment. We always recommend this. A great thing to do tonight while being fresh and clean is to go see Old Crow Medicine Show and Chuck Mead play tonight at the House of Blues. Boot stomp and sweat the night away, confident that your body odor is safely in check. Doors are at 7 p.m.

Light Up Lee Park
Far different than the event with a similar name that happens every April 20th called “Light It Up at Lee Park,” this event features iridescent light from bulbs instead of lighters. Starting at 7 p.m., the lights in the park will be lit and a fireworks show will start immediately afterwards. It's pretty much Christmas and the Fourth of July wrapped up all in one event.

American Spirits Party at 2616 Commerce
Remember the days when smoking inside was considered pretty rad and coughing children were seen as a badge of honor to the amount of chain smoking that a parent could do? Tonight's free American Spirits party at the Commerce Events Center Patio kind of celebrates that idea! Here are the details: There will be music; there will be free food catered by various Deep Ellum businesses; simply going will get you a couple of free drinks (they'll cost you the reasonable price of $3 after that); and you can buy $1 packs of American Spirits if you go. It should be no surprise, then, for us to reveal that this event is for the 21-and-up set only. The party starts raging at 7 p.m. and ends at 10. The only catch is that you have to say that you're a smoker (and probably participate in cigarette-themed party games, such as “Bobbing for Cigars” and “Smoke the Cig”).
