Don't Sputter Out Before The Weekend.
Today is a great day. Not only does it mark the beginning of 35 Denton's festivities, but it's also the day the world was gifted with yours truly. Indeed, tonight is a night worth celebrating.
And we can help with that.
For instance? Are you having a bit of trouble deciding on which band or venue to stake out while checking out Night One of 35 Denton '13? Well, we put together a nifty list of the best bands to see. Tonight's 35 Denton highlights include Quaker City Night Hawks, Spooky Folk, Pinkish Black, Prince William, Power Trip, Mind Spiders and Jacuzzi Boys. (Also? Yes, we will be there to cover the shit out of the festival, so check back with us throughout the weekend.)
If 35 Denton isn't your cup of tea, check out the events below. Any one of them will surely satisfy your thirsty Thursday cravings.
Eels at the Granada
Mark Oliver Everett's long-running indie rock outfit — 1996's “Novacaine For The Soul” remains a jam, by the way — is out on the road once again, supporting the band's just-released tenth record, Wonderful, Glorious. Tonight's also the band's second-to-last stop before they head out for a European tour, so be sure to catch them before they sputter out.
28th Annual Texas Story Telling Festival at the Denton Civic Center
The Tejas Storytelling Association kicks off their annual, weekend-long celebration of the oral tradition today at the Denton Civic Center. Oh, and the Chef Moto Diner Food Truck will be on site, offering delicious accompaniments to the vast array of stories you'll also be consuming.
Lavell Crawford at Arlington Improv
Are you in the mood to laugh so hard you might just pee yourself? Well, Last Comic Standing finalist and recurring Breaking Bad guest star Lavell Crawford is coming to Arlington. He might be able to help with that. But, seriously, who wants to pee themselves?
The Devil Wears Prada at the House of Blues
Metalcore bands take over the House of Blues tonight, so grab some tight jeans, a worn-in black tee and prepare to head bang in the name of Hot Topic. Also on this bill: As I Lay Dying, The Color Moral and For Today.
Pinback at Trees
The Californian favorites bring their smooth jams to Trees tonight. They're pretty cool. Cool enough, at least, to write and record a song for the popular children’s show Yo Gabba Gabba. That song? It's called “Eye in the Sky.” It’s actually pretty good!
30 East Music Fest
Today, Sulphur Springs plays host to the newest pre-SXSW music fest in the region. Seems like these are starting to pop up everywhere these days, right? Performers include Madison King, Home by Hovercraft, The Chloes, Venetian Sailors, The Effinays and Ducado Vega.
