Bust Out the Popcorn for the Oak Cliff Film Festival.
When there's really not too much going on, you sometimes have to content yourself with squeezing a few dollars out of your Beanie Baby collection on eBay. Unfortunately, however, your Beanie Babies will have to wait because two big events kick off in Dallas today. If you're in the mood for some long-term (read: four days) fun, then you're in luck! First, there's the Oak Cliff Film Festival, which is perfect for the film-inclined. On the other hand, if ingesting alcoholic liquids makes you cheer, you should head over to the Stoneleigh Hotel for Craft Cocktails Texas.
Craft Cocktails Texas at Stoneleigh Hotel
Put down that Keystone Light, you barbarian! Get a little more refined with your drinking at Craft Cocktails Texas, a four-day event that kicks off today and promises to familiarize you with the finer things in alcoholic beverages. Drink tastings, music and lectures will make it worth your while.
Oak Cliff Film Festival
Film Festivals are probably one of the best forms of entertainment, as there's usually a hubbub of excitement that you usually don't get at regular screenings (unless it's the opening night of Twilight). Oak Cliff's Film Festival keeps things hyped up by combining new underground films with old classics and kicks off tonight with The Ghastly Love of Johnny X and the delightfully tacky Monster Shark.
TV Girl at Dada
San Diego-based indie pop sweethearts TV Girl frequently walk the line between blissful nostalgia and a more modern, sporadic sound. Their latest mixtape, The Wild, The Innocent, The TV Shuffle, seems like it would be right at home among beach-obsessed '60s pop groups yet still maintains a unique flair.
Cheese 101 at Scardello
I assume that the first lesson in Cheese 101 is that “the moon is not made of cheese” — unless, of course, the moon really is made of cheese and moon rocks are, in reality, really stale cheese, in which case everything I know is a lie. Turns out cheese is a lot more complicated than most people think, and possibly not just for these reasons. That's why the world is in need of people called “cheesemongers,” right? Come people, learn from the cheesemongers.
Tequila Tasting at Maximo
At the Maximo tonight, you can drink tequila and eat hors d'oeurves to benefit The Greyhound Adoption League (GALT). Dogs are welcome to the event, but please remind your furry companion not to drink and fetch.
