The 28th annual downtown Fort Worth Arts Festival kicks off its four-day celebration of culture today, starting with a jam-packed local music schedule that gets going before noon, even. Check out a full schedule of the weekend's performances here.
Chris Murray at Three Links
Canadian ska pioneer Chris Murray hits up Three Links tonight with a special acoustic performance as part of his latest mini-tour of America. Also on the bill: Mike Richardson of the reggae-rock group Bum Lucky.
The Cave Singers and Bleeding Rainbow at Club Dada
These Seattle-based indie folk rockers, whose appearance almost exactly reflects their band name, are on the road in support of their fourth studio album, Naomi. Philadelphia psych-rock outfit Bleeding Rainbow, formerly known as Reading Rainbow, rounds out this interesting lineup.
Val Kilmer in Citizen Twain at the Winspear
Kilmer has played numerous iconic roles — Jim Morrison, John Holmes, Doc Holliday, Tom “Iceman” Kazanski and motherfucking Batman, just to name a few. Now he takes on a role that is near and dear to his heart, starring in a one-man play about the life of Mark Twain. He's gonna use prosthetics, period garb, and every other trick in the book at this one.
How To Create Your Own Studio at the Creative Arts Center

The folks over at Kettle will be putting together a “Kettle Retro-Spectacle” in honor of their final exhibition at their Deep Ellum space. The exhibition will run today through May 4, just before they venture out to their yet-to-be-discovered new location.
