Take a Turn with Lil Flip.
So, over the weekend, the new Former Groupies of Reddit page kinda blew up like crazy when a user claiming to be the former manager for several high-profile EDM artists started dishing dirt about her former clients in one of the threads.
It was awesome.
Also? It turned out to not be true. After news of the sordid tales spread, the user behind the EDM stories in particular backed away from the veracity of her claims. But that user's pretty much the only one to have done so. Other sharers — including the user behind the claim that Derek Jeter may or may not offer his lovers a post-coital gift bag — stand by their stories.
Listen: We know it's a somewhat slow-ish night around town. And, we just figured, if you plan on staying in, delving into this thread could provide you with a little in-home entertainment. But if you happen to be heading out and looking to add a celebrity notch to your depraved sex belt, there might be a few things you can learn from Reddit's old pros. We must warn you, though: Arguably, the most famous bands in town tonight — and maybe your best chances for turning those rock 'n' roll fantasies into reality — are some washed up old metal dudes.
Lil Flip at Prime Nightclub
Though Flip was considered something of a boy wonder in his native Houston after releasing his semi-successful debut album at age 19, the Ahead of My Time rapper and self-proclaimed freestyle king is still waiting for his big mainstream break 13 years later. In any case, expect plenty of spitting off the dome tonight. — Cory Graves
Overkill and Kreator at Trees
The Legends of Thrash tour brings thrash legends Overkill and Kreator to Deep Ellum tonight. Although Overkill might not have quite the same name recognition as, say, any of the Big Four, they were every bit as essential as their brethren in Anthrax (with whom they coincidentally shared a member early on) in spreading thrash metal throughout the east coast and beyond. Thirty years and 20 albums laterm they're still at it, this time with their German compatriots in Kreator in tow. Oh yeah, and for whatever reason, Eddie Trunk from VH1's That Metal Show will be making a special appearance at this one as well. — Jordyn Walters
Dallas Mavericks vs. Philadelphia 76ers at American Airlines Center
It's basically a rite of passage in this town to attend at least one Mavs game in your lifetime, and considering that our hometown team has consecutively sold out 477 games since 2001, you'd better start looking for tickets now if you plan on rooting on the boys tonight. — JW
The Merchant of Venice at Hamon Hall
ATTPAC's five-year plan to stage performances of the entirety of Shakespeare's brings you this staged reading of the playwright's The Merchant of Venice. It's certainly one of the Bard's most popular works, having spawned 12 film adaptations, four operas and numerous entertainment references from Star Trek to Shindler's List. And that's just from the last century alone. — JW
