Honk If You Like Mondays.

As frequently as we give smartphones a hard time in these “things to do” posts for overly distracting us from appreciating the world around us, we sometimes must admit they are not all bad. Sometimes, they can be a real life saver.

In the case of one 25-year-old British man, that's very literally true, as his iPhone stopped a shotgun blast that likely would have killed him.

As it turns out, those things are good for other stuff as well, like finding a few ways to spice up your Monday. — Cory Graves

Dylanfest at Dan's Silverleaf
Folk icon Bob Dylan turned 73 yesterday. In celebration, Dylan-emulator Tex Zimmerman has put in place the 7th installment of “Dylanfest,” focusing this one on the gospel music of Mr. Bob Dylan. The evening includes collaborative efforts with other like-minded Dylan enthusiasts. — Evan Henry

Pour Man's Beer Dinner at the Common Table
Great beverages often compliment great meals. That's what each Monday, upscale eatery the Common Table aims for, but on the cheap, without being too cheap. $29 gets you for courses and four beers to match. Think you're up for the challenge? — EH

Sparkle Tunnel at Crown and Harp
If the weekend didn't already wear you out, Ronnie Hart's got a DJ night that should have you whipped into shape in no time. Can you handle all that is the Sparkle Tunnel? — EH

Memorial Day Honk at BrainDead Brewing
If three-day weekends are perfect for anything it's day drinking. At BrainDead they spice up the concept with a drinking game of sorts. It's a pretty simple one, too. They put up signs encouraging passersby to honk their horns, and when they do you drink. Honestly, though, you don't really need an excuse to drink BrainDead's housemade brews in excess; they're actually pretty damn good on their own. — CG
