Soak Up The Sun With Sheryl Crow and a Good Cause.
Since you've no doubt dedicated this past weekend to your mom, start tonight off by celebrating yourself. If you're curious to see how the 24 Hour Film Race turned out, the entries will be screening tonight at the Angelika Film Center at Mockingbird Station. This is great for those of you that have a really short attention span, as the videos are restricted to a five minute running time.
If you enjoy transferring food into your face, the International Eating Club is still going on, so you can eat your way to free stuff. Speaking of free: Tonight at Mariano's you can get half off a specialty margarita. That means that half of your margarita is free, in case you weren't following.
Don't like eating, drinking or watching short films? Chill out at the Amsterdam Bar for some badass jazz, head to City Tavern or check out Sheryl Crow at the Meyerson.
24 Hour Video Race at Angelika Film Center
Remember that 24-hour video race we were talking about last week? Well, tonight you can enjoy the fruits of the contestant's labor at the Angelika Film Center at Mockingbird Station. The videos are five minutes or less, and have to follow a theme of “going green,” as well as incorporate a closet, a fortune cookie and the phrase, “I don't know, what do you think?” It'll be interesting to see what direction crafty filmmakers will take this.
International Eating Challenge in Deep Ellum
You still have a week left to finish the International Eating Challenge as part of the Yelp Passport to Deep Ellum, so get to it, hungry people! To win, you need to visit Cane Rosso, Free Man's Cajun Cafe, Angry Dog, Lemongrass, Monica's Aca Y Alla and Deep Sushi by May 20.
Half-priced Margaritas at Mariano's
Alliteration fans across Dallas rejoiced as Mariano's announced “Margarita Mondays,” where you can enjoy a select specialty margarita at half the price. Since the margaritas are half off, you might as well get two and call it a night. Drink until it's not Monday anymore!
Sheryl Crow at the Meyerson Center
Eternal fun-desirer Sheryl Crow returns to Dallas tonight, and I've got a feeling she's not the only one who will be there. Because it's at the Meyerson Center. And that would be weird. As an added bonus, the proceeds of the concert go to Vogel Alcove Childcare Center for the Homeless.
Badass Jazz at the Amsterdam Bar
Luckily they put the word “badass” in the title, so you won't be left wondering where the event stands on the Scale of Awesome Things (a real and legitimate scale). If the title alone isn't enough to convince you of badassery, then know that local saxophonist Shelley Carrol will be there to woo you with his sweet tunes.
Ricki Derek and The Vegas Six at City Tavern
Local lounge singer extraordinaire Ricki Derek and his backing band have a special treat to offer up tonight at City Tavern as they celebrate the anniversary of the passing of Old Blue Eyes.
