Is It Hot In Herre Or Is It Just That Nelly's Playing Richardson Tonight?
Today is the 138th day of the year, which, according to my calculations, makes it the best day to go out and do stuff. To honor the awesome that is Day 138, both Taste Addison and the Wildflower Festival kick off their suburban festivities today. But wait! There's more! If you like corsets (Kate Winslet, is that you?), be sure to check out the Viva Dallas Cirque du Burlesque at the Lakewood Theater. Also going on tonight: The Uptown Players will be wrapping up their parody piece, The Silence of the Clams. Oh, and Rubber Gloves will host Ella Minnow's CD release party. All hail Day 138!
Exit 380 at DMA Late Nights
Like art but can't be bothered to put on pants before 5 p.m.? Never fear! That's what Late Nights at the Dallas Museum of Art are for! While not standing in front of a painting practicing your “Fascinating!” facial expression, jam out to alt-rock band Exit 380.
The Silence of the Clams at the Rose Room
Tonight's the last night to see the Uptown Players' parody of the 1990 classic The Silence of the Lambs. Tell the babies to stay home, as it's a bit risque. To give you a hint about the play's content, the villain's name has been changed from Buffalo Bill to Beaver Bob. But, y'know, he still eats his victims. (Ba-dum-chhhkk!)
Taste Addison
Every year, dozens of misguided souls licked the paved streets of Addison to find out what the city tasted like. To prevent this, the City of Addison launched its first “Taste Addison” event 20 years ago. This year, there will be over 60 restaurants in attendance and offering food, as well as music by Mat Kearney, Rhett Miller and other food-friendly musicians.
Viva Dallas Cirque du Burlesque at the Lakewood Theater
When I first heard that “Ammunition of Chicago” would be performing a show called Cirque du Burlesque, I thought it was some sort of traveling NRA dance troupe. Both fortunately and unfortunately — think about all of the synchronized shooting you could get with a group of NRA dancers — Ammunition of Chicago is just an experienced burlesque dancer and self-described “fire/grinder.” If you go to the show, please tell me what a fire/grinder is.
Ella Minnow CD Release Show at Rubber Gloves
Spend your evening with the release show for Ella Minnow's Honey Sweet Devils at Rubber Gloves. The band will be joined by local cohorts including The Boxing Lesson, The Demigs, and Shiny Around the Edges.
Wildflower Music Festival
When I found out that Nelly would be headlining the first night of the Wildflower Festival, I was like “good gracious ass is bodacious.” Other artists playing tonight include The King Bucks, The Commodores and Day Job Refugees. But, mostly, it's about to get hot in herre Richardson.
