Hey, Ladies: Son Of Stan Is Coming Around At No. 14.
Just as we have at the end of the last two years, the Central Track staff has once again spent the last week reminiscing and pouring pretty tirelessly over the best locally-tied songs of the year. By now, of course, most folks expect as much from their local culture publications. Unlike in previous years, though, we've decided to do things a little differently in 2014. For one, the influx of notable tunes this year prompted us to double the length of our list — from the Top 50 to the Top 100 local songs of the year. At the same time, we didn't want to overwhelm our readers with a huge list of 100 tracks to take in all once, either. To that end, we're going to roll the thing out in daily chunks, unveiling more songs every weekday through the end of the month. It should serve to make the thing a little easier to digest — and give you time to check out the embedded streams of anything you might have missed throughout the course of the year. Really, though, you should give each of these songs a spin. They all deserve at least that much.
What can we say about Son of Stan that we haven't already?
Back in June, the auteur of fuzzy, '80s-mining pop rock born Jordan Richardson let us premiere “The Lady That's Around Me,” the first track from this year's Georgia EP — a song we still very much dig today.
Still, here's what we had to say back then about the track that kicked off our skuzzy summer: “This first taste of Georgia feels very much like a continuation of the vibe put forth by Divorce Pop — the main difference being the immediate sense that this is now a band with some shows under its belt. The energy of the band's live offerings is something that definitely shines through from the very first spin of the sweaty, dog-days-of-summer pop jam.”
In case you've forgotten how that song goes, here it is again:

It's an infectious jam, to be sure. And it's a style that's begun to spread a bit, too. In some Fort Worth-centric circles, anyway, “the WizardVizion sound” — as put forth by Son of Stan and its collaborators — is very much becoming a thing.
And, hey, who could blame anyone for wanting to cop some of this steez? Richardson clearly knows how to write one hell of a catchy tune.
This one proves it.
