Sikwitit Aims To Put Dallas' Rap Producers On The Map.
Welcome The Makers, a feature in which our video crew highlights the people behind some of the coolest things going on around the region.
Everyone knows that the Dallas hip-hop scene is on fire right now. But, still, there's a bit of gripe to be had: The group of people perhaps most responsible for crafting the sound behind all this hype — Dallas' many, many talented rap producers — aren't necessarily getting their due shine.
Now, one of these producers is hoping to change all that. The Corpus Christi-raised, Dallas-based and New York City-crowned Beast of the Beats champion Sikwitit has recently started assembling a crew of Dallas' finest beatmakers with the goal of releasing a collaborative beat tape that should formally announce Dallas' presence as not just a rap hub, but as a beat factory, too.
In the coming weeks, the fruits of that labor will be unveiled for all to hear. Last week, though, Sikwitit was kind enough to let us into his studio space for a listening session alongside his fellow producers and to take some time to tell us a little bit more about his ambitious project. Check it out. — Kalan Briggs
