Pastor Ed Young of Fellowship Church Wants To Help You Get Dressed.
Pastor Ed Young of Grapevine's Fellowship Church is no stranger to making headlines. He is, after all, the mastermind behind the “sexperiment,” in which he encouraged committed couples both in his congregation and beyond to — gasp! — sleep with one another every day for a whole week. This week, the charismatic preacher is back in the national spotlight — this time for deciding to tackle the world of fashion in the name of God through a new website called PastorFashion.com.
“If people take a step and think about it, they would see it,” Young told ABC News this week. “God created color, God created design. He created things that look nice and we're simply doing what he wants us to do. Being a follower of Christ should be cool because God is cool, God is hip. We should live that out.”
Also? “Why can't the men and women of God set the standard for the rest of the world in fashion as well as faith?”
Hey, it's a fair question — and one Young hopes to answer on the new site through posts that discuss the need for collar-stays, the dangers of skinny jeans and, of course, the importance of “swag.”
Most important, however, are his “10 Fashion Tips For The Faithful,” which, among other fashion faux pas, rails against square-toed shoes because, no joke, “square toe shoes are from the Devil.”
That may seem like excessive damnation, but, hey, Young may have a point. The greatest trick the devil ever pulled, after all, was convincing the world that square-toed shoes were an option.
