Scenes From Friday Night's Pop That! Party at Sons of Hermann Hall.
I'm not going to sugarcoat this: Friday night's Pop That! party at Sons of Hermann Hall didn't exactly go as planned.
With the State Fair and the Index Festival both kicking off on this night, parking in Deep Ellum — already a nightmare because of all the street construction around there — was even more of a mess than usual. Meanwhile, flight issues delayed both of our out-of-town guests from getting to the spot on time; headliner Pase Rock wasn't able to arrive early enough to sound check before doors, and host Chuck Inglish, because of major issues at Chicago's O'Hare International Airport, was barely able to arrive at the venue before closing time. Most of all, the venue itself massively understaffed its bars — despite the fact that two events had been booked to its spaces. In turn, the bar lines all night were extremely long as a single volunteer bartender tried to keep pace with two floors' worth of event attendees.
So, no, our seventh edition of this recurring bash that we through in tandem with DJ Sober and our friends at Cricket Wireless didn't exactly face an ideal set of circumstances.
Still, many shouts to those who came out and hung around regardless, their spirits high and their smiles bright as Booty Fade, Zach Witness and Pase Rock held things down on that stage at Sons' upstairs ballroom. As ever, it was you all that made the event a worthwhile one.
We'll make it up to you at our next Pop That!, which is already in the works and should be ready to be announced in the coming weeks. At that one, we'll really go hard and make it up to you.
That's a promise.
