We took a chance this week, rolling the dice on a new Ewan McGregor vehicle called American Pastoral that’s showing at the Angelika.
It kind of paid off — in the sense that the movie touches on a lot of deep topics that spark plenty of talk. Its look at parenting and how much nurture can be blamed when a child goes wrong is pretty interesting. And the backdrop of the Vietnam War definitely adds some depth to the proceedings.
But, also, the gamble kind of went bust. This is a crap movie! The acting is terrible, and the writing doesn’t make the acting any easier.
Joining me to determine where this movie went right and more frequently wrong is Skyler Thiot.
