Already, Glazed Donut Works Is Taking The Week Off and Tripling Its Staff To Keep Up With Demand.
We figured people were going to be excited about Glazed Donut Works, the new Deep Ellum doughnut shop. We just didn't figure they'd be this excited. And neither did the folks behind the store, turns out.
After a successful soft opening on Thursday, the company got straight-up slammed on its first official day open on Friday and then again on Saturday — to the tune of selling out of its complete inventory of pastries within 90 minutes on both days, according to co-owner Darren Cameron.
Kind of a good thing, you could argue. But also? It's not.
So, to that end, the Glazed team is already undergoing some changes. This afternoon, the shop released a statement announcing that its doors would be shut for the rest of this week until Friday as team triples (!) its production staff and undergoes training with its new employees so as to keep up with demand.
The full statement from the Glazed team can be found below. In the meantime, we suggest you dream about the blueberry doughnut pictured above. It's every bit as tasty as it looks. Tastier, really.
Happy Monday Friends!
Wow – we are still in awe of the turnout this past weekend, Thank You! The outpouring of support for our shop is appreciated more than you could ever imagine. The demand was so great we literally sold out of donuts in 90 minutes on Friday which is simply unbelievable to us. Saturday we adjusted and increased our volume to 750 and still sold out earlier than we would have liked. Making donuts the way we do is extremely labor intensive, and making everything from scratch is not a fast process, nor should it be. There are no buckets of preservative laden processed fruit, bags of donut pre-mix or bulk instant glazes here – no frozen product or conveyor belts. Quality takes time.
What we will not do is sacrifice quality for quantity, conversely we also want you our customers to have access to our product for longer than 90 minutes. What we have elected to do is add staff and increase production of our donuts. Adding additional staff and training them will assure that while we are increasing our volume, we are not sacrificing quality to do so. What this means is we will be closed for employee training until Friday morning this week. We will reopen Friday morning at 7am to resume regular hours. We appreciate your patronage and hope you will bear with us as we triple our employees and increase our production. Thanks in advance for your patience with us – we truly appreciate your business and hope to see you here soon!
