A-Trak, Jazzy Jeff and Z-Trip To Judge Red Bull Thre3Style Regional Finals at Trees.
You thought the Red Bull's Thre3Style subregional qualifier competition at It'll Do was a party? Well, then you're in for quite the treat next month. On Saturday, February 23, the Red Bull crew will again take over a Dallas club for a Thre3Style event. This time, though, the affair will be held at Trees. And, this time, the stakes are higher.
This regional final — the last stop before the national competition later this year — will feature Dallas' champ, DJ A1, competing against winners from the New Orleans (DJ Jive), Kansas City (DJ Spinstyles), Austin (Donnie Dee) and Houston (OG Bobby Trill) competitions. The rules remain the same as the last round — each performer must offer up a 15-minute set that spans at least three genres — but, this time, the winner will walk with $10,000 in cash, plus a spot in the national finals. Second place will walk with $5,000, and third place will be rewarded with $2,000. As with last time, the performers will be judged by their track selection, their technical skills, their creativity and their crowds' reaction.
But here's the kicker: The judges for this particular competition aren't exactly slouches. Instead, Red Bull will be flying in three of the world's most acclaimed DJs — A-Trak, Jazzy Jeff and Z-Trip — to handle the judging.
There will also be a headlining set from an as-yet-unannounced “special guest headliner” once the competition comes to its close.
So, yeah, it's going to be kind of a big deal.
And with that, perhaps not surprisingly, comes a higher ticket price than last round's free admission. A $10 ticket, which will become available for purchase on Trees' web site starting next week, will get you in, and the proceeds will be going to a good cause: The Deep Ellum Community Association's Deep Ellum Mural Project initiative.
Maybe, if he wins, A1 will pay you back the $10? Doubtful, but feel free to ask.
Anyway, for more information on the event, hit up Red Bull's Thre3style site. And, in the meantime, bump this in honor of guest judge DJ Jazzy Jeff. He'd want it that way.
