Noted Hipster Politician Kevin Roden Is Mulling a Run For Mayor of Denton.
Well, here's an interesting development in the increasingly hip world of Denton politics: Noted “hipster politician” and current Denton city councilman Kevin Roden announced this morning that, for the next 24 hours at least, he's exploring the idea of running for mayor later this year.
Only, here's the thing: If the below video and its accompanying campaign site serve as any indication, it sure looks as if Rodens's doing more than just toying with the idea.
Says Roden, rather amusingly, in a note in which he passed along the above video: “In case you thought I was going to let Glen Farris take away my hipster cred, I've got Midlake playing in the background of my possible campaign video.”
In July of last year, we profiled Roden and his interesting interplay with Denton's music-loving, craft beer-swilling hipster set. At the time, when we asked him about an eventual run for mayor, he didn't exactly deny the possibility.
“If I have the time, I would be honored to have the opportunity to be mayor at some point,” he said. “There's only so much power I have on city council to affect change.”
Still, for now, Roden says he's serious about simply exploring the notion.
“To run, I have to resign my current seat,” he says. “If I lose, I'm off council. It's a weighty decision, and I'm looking forward to the feedback.”
