Rejoice, Nerds: Neil deGrasse Tyson Is Coming to Dallas.
Don't find science to be understandable, interesting or funny? You've just never come across Neil deGrasse Tyson. And, lucky you, the disarming, enlightening science pioneer will be appearing at Winspear Opera House on Monday, May 19.
Really, though: Tyson is probably the best thing to happen to the science-dreading masses since Bill Nye, which is funny, as Nye also happens to be Tyson's best friend.
The guy's just a badass. He's an expert on star formation and the structure of the Milky Way Galaxy. He's served on commissions, appointed by President Bush, to study the Future of the U.S. Aerospace Industry and the Implementation of the US Space Exploration Policy. Oh, and he's taken a comedic approach to bringing science appreciation to the public with his StarTalk podcast, which is unabashedly targeted at people who never thought they would or could like science.
Like I said: He's awesome. And his impending arrival in town? It's great news.
More information on his appearance in town can be found here. Worth knowing: Tickets range from $20 to $100 and will go on sale on Friday, February 7, at 10 a.m.
