Loui G – “VENT”
RIYL: An amalgamation of earmarks between both early ’10s and late ’10s hip-hop.
What Else You Should Know: If it’s true that art movements work in cycles, then Dallas rapper Loui G and producer Parkkell Price are working on 15-year loops for their new single “VENT,” which finds Price taking the beat from Twista and Kanye West’s “Overnight Celebrity,” significantly upping its bass quotient and newcomer Loui G providing modern lyrical and vocal sensibilities atop it.
Aside from the pleasant return of the familiar beat, the rapper’s fast-tempo flow does the track’s heavy lifting, with bars like “Life is a movie you’ve got to see through” and “You don’t know my life, you don’t have a clue” quickly bringing listeners into Loui G’s headspace. While it’s difficult to interpret some of what Loui G is saying, the verses that are decipherable seem to expound on the “You don’t know my life” refrain.
Either way, “VENT” is a banger, and Loui G and Parkkell Price make a great team. Just listen to Loui G go ham toward the end to see what we mean.
