Tegan and Sara Play ATTPAC's Strauss Square on October 11. And We've Got Presale Access.
No matter your position on Tegan & Sara's music, which is at worst highly enjoyable if inoffensive, you really do have to respect the stances the pop-inclined, Canadian-bred twins take toward the modern music world, especially as it pertains to the misogyny and homophobia that continuously run rampant throughout the industry. It was only last year, you may recall, when Sara Quin took to the Internet to call out seemingly the entire world for excessively congratulating Tyler, The Creator on what she called the “sickening rhetoric” in his lyrics.
“Why should I care about this music or its 'brilliance' when the message is so repulsive and irresponsible?” she asked.
It was a fairly daring question to ask at the time given Tyler, The Creator and Odd Future's meteoric rise at the time, and, rightfully, it made a lot of people, this journalist included, question the praise they'd previously heaped upon the Los Angeles hip-hop upstart.
But, considering the source, it wasn't all that surprising of an act. Tegan & Sara, who both proudly wear their own homosexuality on their sleeve, have long been outspoken advocates for the lesser-represented in the music world. It's no wonder, then, that their fans are such a fiercely loyal bunch. To their audience, Tegan & Sara are more than just musicians; they're legitimate role models.
Given this, we're quite pleased to announce that the folks at the AT&T Performing Arts Center have booked an upcoming performance from Tegan & Sara on Thursday, October 11, at Annette Strauss Square, where they'll be joined by acclaimed Austin synth-purveyors SPEAK for a rare outdoor concert in the Arts District.
Tickets to the show will run $35 and officially go on sale tomorrow morning at 10 a.m. As always with ATTPAC events, the best seats to the affair will be reserved for center members (sign up to become one here). But, thanks to the folks at ATTPAC, we here at Central Track can make our readers a pretty solid offer of our own: Though tickets to this show aren't available to the public until tomorrow, Central Track readers have been given exclusive access to the show's presale ticket offerings.
To buy your early-bird ticket, head on over to the ATTPAC online box office page for the show starting right now, and enter “CENTRALTRACK” into the promo code box in the upper right corner of the page. Then, well, I guess we'll see you on October 11, huh?
