Scoping The Goodguys' Spring Lone Star Nationals Car Show.

Saturday, we decided to ditch the St. Patty's Day crowd and head out to the Texas Motor Speedway for a day of shined-up paint jobs and big engines instead. It was a solid choice: The Goodguys' Spring Lone Star Nationals car show was full of pre-1972 street rods and muscle cars.

The people-watching was pretty great, too; there were a few stragglers wearing green, but no beads to be found. But there was plenty else: There were great vendors and food trucks, and the little ones were well entertained, running like hamsters in the water-walking balls.

The highlight of the day came when we got to jump in our car with a friend and drive on the track — just like NASCAR drivers. Of course, they put a pace car in the front to spoil a little of the fun. Still, one car managed to catch on fire.

Overall, it was a pretty perfect day at the speedway, with plenty of pretty cars to look at.
