The 2014 World Cup Is Coming To Dallas. No, Not That One.
Right on the heels of the 2011 Super Bowl and the 2014 Final Four, it seems North Texas has landed yet another marquee sporting event from the upcoming sports calendar. Yup, Dallas will play host to the 2014 World Cup.
No, not that one.
Despite some difficulties, Brazil will still play host to the soccer version. Instead, it was revealed today, Dallas will in 2014 play host to the World Cup of Roller Derby.
The second-ever event (the first came back in 2011 in Toronto) will take place at the State Fair Coliseum next year from December 4 through December 7 and will feature the roller derby squads of more than 13 countries, including the defending champion from right here in the United States.
If you want to check out all of the thrills and spills — and perhaps the one World Cup that the U.S. is capable of winning at this point — you might want to start saving up now. Four-day passes to the event, which go on sale through the official Roller Derby World Cup site on July 1, will run you $127.50.
