Exclusive Premiere: Check Out The Outfit, TX's New Video For Dirty South Rydan.
Back when we first introduced our readers to The Outfit, TX in March 2013, we acknowledged the fact that, though its members all hailed from Dallas, the group was in fact a Houston-based act at the time. Things changed in the months that followed, though, as the trio of Mel Kyle Dorian Terrell and JayHawk Walker relocated permanently back to their hometown, Dallas proud.
But the confusion over The Outift's home base didn't slow: While earning praise from Vice and the influential blogosphere alike, the national media's decision on the Outfit's location oscillated between the two Texas cities the group has called home, with Houston often getting the nod and Dallas taking a back seat.
Hey, credit to Houston for claiming these ever-creative dudes: Just past March, the Houston Press named The Outfit the top hip-hop group in Houston during its recent music awards.
But credit, too, to The Outfit for doing what it can to clear the air some with its newest music video. The King David-directed clip, which promotes the song “Dirty South Rydan” from Mel's half of the group's recent double-disc mixtape release Cognac/Four Corner Room, leaves little doubt about where The Outfit resides at the moment. Over a typically syrupy beat, one of the video's primary settings is South Dallas landmark eatery Rudy's Chicken. Doesn't get much more Dallas than that.
Neither does this: The group was kind enough to pass the clip along our way as an exclusive premiere before heading out on a seven-date, Red Bull Sound Select-sponsored tour of The South, during which the group will play support to Killer Mike and El-P's Run The Jewels project. Check it out below.
