Power Trip Threw Down A Punishing Set As Part Of Its De Facto Album Release Show That Helped Kick Off The 10th Annual So What?! Music Festival.

Ten years into its now-bi-annual offering, the So What?! Music Festival tried something a little different this year. Taking a note from its successful run this past fall, the three-day spring festival hosted its Friday night festivities on various stages across Deep Ellum before heading west to the confines of AirHogs Stadium in Grand Prairie for its Saturday and Sunday offerings.
The highlight of Friday night’s offering came in the big room at The Prophet Bar, where the Dallas thrash gods in Power Trip headlined a bill that essentially acted as its de facto hometown album release show for its stellar sophomore Nightmare Logic LP for Southern Lord. Following a bill of likeminded hardcore openers and then back-to-back hip-hop sets California rapper Antwon and local hardcore-influenced rap favorite Blue, The Misfit, Power Trip’s set was an appropriately punishing display of searing riffs, unrelenting noise and guttural lyrical rallying cries.
Per usual, it was a sight to be seen too, as evidenced from photographer Karlo X. Ramos’ above photo set from the night, which features bodies incessantly slamming into one another as limbs fly in each and every direction during the band’s set.
The truth remains: Ain’t no show like a Power Trip show, ’cause a Power Trip show might just get you the sweetest fat lip.
