Brony-Fest, A My Little Pony-Centric Affair Aimed at Adult Males, Is Coming to Lewisville Next March
When did North Texas fall so in love with niche conventions?
Horror fanatics have Frightmare Weekend. The Anime-obsessed have A-Kon. The Trekkies and their minions have the Dallas Sci-Fi Expo. And then, of course, there's the big one: Dallas Comic Con.
Just how much niche-ier are we going to get?
Well, this much, turns out: Returning to Lewisville next March is Brony-Fest 2014, a three-day convention almost exclusively tailored to male fans of the 2010 My Little Pony re-boot, Friendship is Magic, who proudly refer to themselves as “Bronies.”
The locally-based Rowdy Rough Bronies club has organized the three-day affair, which begins on March 28, 2014, to include cosplay, arts and crafts panels, fan fiction readings, a live taping of their self-titled podcast and, somewhat inexplicably, a screening of The Big Lebowski.
They'll also have special pony-centric guests ranging from fringe-level pseudo celebs to notable Bronies — if, in fact, that is such a thing. On that front, the biggest name is far and away Matt Hill, who aside from voicing the pony Soarin' was also the voice (and guy inside the costume) of Raphael from Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles III, as well as the voice of Kevin from the short-lived animated series Captain Nintendo.
Other guests include behind-the-scene folks (is even the most obsessed fan really interested in meeting an ADR guy?), Brony community notables such as Neil Wacaster (who has had his fan drawings featured on the website Equestria Daily a whopping six times), and locally-based Brony musicians like Clayton Roberts (who will, again inexplicably, be performing a batch of original tunes inspired by The Big Lebowski).
Single-day passes to Brony-Fest 2014: Ponies in Space range in price from $25 to $35. They can be purchased here if you're even remotely interested.
