Force Majeure.
Director: Ruben Östlund.
Writer: Ruben Östlund.
Cast: Johannes Kuhnke, Lisa Loven Kongsli, Clara Wettergren.
Playing At: Texas Theatre.
Force Majeure — or Turist if you're Swedish — won the Best Foreign-Language Film for the 2014 Dallas-Fort Worth Film Critics Association Awards on top of being one of the most talked-about films last year. So, yeah, it has a high chance at winning the Oscar in the same category at the upcoming Academy Awards. It’s only playing twice here in Dallas, it appears, so get to it.
The Better Angels.
Director: A.J. Edwards.
Writer: A.J. Edwards.
Cast: Jason Clarke, Diane Kruger, Brit Marling, Wes Bentley.
Playing At: Fort Worth Museum of Modern Art.
The Better Angels is a look at the childhood that shaped the life of one of our greatest presidents, Abraham Lincoln. It has an all-star cast and was produced by some filmmaker you may have heard of named Terrence Malick. So here's what I can't figure out: Why this is only playing in Fort Worth? No disrespect, but this should also be at Texas Theatre, where it screened during the Oak Cliff Film Festival. Oof.
The Woman in Black 2: Angel of Death.
Director: Tom Harper.
Writer: Jon Croker.
Cast: Helen McCrory, Jeremy Irvine, Phoebe Fox.
Playing At: Wide.
I haven't seen The Woman in Black, but it seems to have scared up enough cash for a sequel. This one doesn't have Daniel Radcliffe in it, though. He's been replaced by Jeremy Irvine, the young fella Spielberg's War Horse.
