Scenes From Last Night's Raunchy Dirt Nasty Performance at Trees.
Rapping and rhyming with enough swagger to steal your attention and enough girls on stage to make sure you he kept it, Dirt Nasty rocked Trees quite capably on Sunday night. And he wasted no time in doing so, either. Soon as his set started, Nasty (Simon Rex, a former MTV VJ and one of the stars of the Scary Movie franchise) was patting asses and snatching glasses in front of an audience that was all too pleased to put up with his antics.
It was a weird crowd, let's be clear — a bizarre mesh of hip-hop heads, rockabilly cats, scenester and dance freaks formed the motley crew in Trees last night. But, under the same roof, they were unified, a quick-to-embrace-most-anything bunch.
Then again, they also seemed pretty drunk.
Opening acts Dick Codgers and The Weekend Hustler certainly embraced this fact with their gyrating, cocksure sets. DJ Phooka, meanwhile, kept the crowds dancing between sets with his always-on-point blend of hip-hop, drum and bass and dubstep.
Entertaining, if lowbrow, as these opening sets may have been, though, they really paled in comparison to Dirty Nasty's set, which essentially served as an all-out war on social graces. He implored his female fans to rub up on their breasts (some even complied), his male fans to grab their junk, and everyone to pretty much constantly put their hands in the air and wave them like they didn't really care.
By the time the show, which was filled with raunchy vocals and raunchier pantomimes, came to its end, Trees looked like a sloppy mess. The crowd, uniformly, was soaked.
Was it sweat? Spilled drinks? Just the spirit of a damn good time? Tough to say, for sure.
Personally, I'm blaming it on the alcohol.
