Check Out DJ Sober's Annual Gorilla Vs. Bear Mix.
We're just about a week off from this year's Gorilla Vs. Bear showcase — the fourth now in the taste-making site's annual showcase series at the Granada Theater — going down on Friday, September 12.
This year's offering, which we told you about back in June, is an especially killer one, too, featuring a bill of Panda Bear, SOPHIE, the suddenly nameless artist formerly known as Ejecta, Doss and Blues Control.
And, for his part, Gorilla Vs. Bear founder Chris Cantalini is especially stoked.
“Like all of our previous lineups, it's a very accurate reflection of what we're loving most at the moment,” he says of GVB4. “Specifically, Panda Bear is one of our favorite artists in the history of the site, and the new material he'll be playing is incredible. What SOPHIE's doing right now is sort of unclassifiable; he's the most-blogged-about artist on Hype Machine, and his live sets are notoriously equal parts mind-blowing and confusing. We've always loved whatever Leanne Macomber is doing, and Doss put out one of our favorite records of the year. We feel like it will be a very vibe-y, danceable event with tons of cool music.”
And, really, the celebration kicks off today as DJ Sober, Son of Stan and Bashe play a pre-party for next week's showcase with a preview bash that kicks off at 8 p.m.
Also set to drop today on Gorilla Vs. Bear is the release of DJ Sober's annual mix in celebration of the showcase. Except, uh, GVB's site is popping up and down at the moment. Still, Cantalini wanted to get the thing out anyway, so he kindly passed it along our way.
Give it a listen below. You should know the quality of Sober's mixes by now, and this manages to keep up with its blend of alluring beats and dance-worthy moments, all the while incorporating members of the lineup. In short: It's a nice preview.
