Nike's Fixing To Shoot An Olympics Ad In Deep Ellum This Weekend.

Central Track has learned that, this weekend in Deep Ellum, Nike will be filming an ad that it apparently hopes to air during the Olympics later this summer.

On Saturday afternoon, crews will begin prepping the vacant lot across Main Street from Murray Street Coffee for an ad to be shot beginning at 6 o'clock on Sunday morning. Sources close to the ad's filming tell us that the spot will find the shoe company doing a loose take on the great HBO documentary Magic & Bird: A Courtship of Rivals. Details beyond that are scant at this point, but we do hear that Michael Jordan is supposedly somehow involved in the concept of the ad, although the producers currently deny that His Airness will be present for the shooting. Convenient since, if we were going to bring Michael Jordan to town to shoot a commercial, that's exactly what we'd be telling people, too.

The ad is apparently set to be an ode to U.S. Olympians and, if all goes according to plan, it will be shown during the opening ceremonies of this year's games in London.

Depending on your stance on sneaker commercialism and/or the greatest basketball player to ever live, you're either going to want to wake up early on Sunday morning (read: just stay up late on Saturday night) and head down to Deep Ellum or you'll want to keep your ass in bed until the shooting is done with later in the day.

In somewhat related news, Murray Street Coffee, which is normally closed on Sundays, will be open early on Sunday morning to accommodate the shoot's crew and their caffeine needs.
